1257R Turnover Ball Gooseneck Hitch
Toyota’s redesign of the frame and underbody on the new 2007 Tundra trucks has forced B&W to rethink and redesign our Turnover Ball Gooseneck Hitch. These changes will not allow the ball to turnover and store in the socket as with standard Turnover Ball applications. A close look underneath the truck quickly explains why clearance has become such an issue. The ball if inverted will come into contact with brake lines and or the trucks differential when the hitch is loaded. Considerable time and effort went into the new design. The ball and receiver length were shortened in an attempt to improve clearance under the bed. In the end the decision had to be made and the design changed so that the ball could NOT be inverted on the 1257R. It is for this reason that production of a hitch plug is underway so that the receiver may be plugged when not towing a trailer.
In addition, the newly designed and shorter receiver socket on the 1257R will not allow the use of any standard Turnover Ball accessories including the Extender and the Companion 5th wheel hitch. B&W will continue to monitor demand and further our engineering efforts for Turnover Ball accessories and the 1257R.
CREW-MAX MODEL
Please note that one of the new Toyota Truck Models is the “Crew-Max”. This truck offers a full crew cab and 5.5’ truck box. This extremely short bed could potentially cause turning clearance issues depending on what type of gooseneck trailer is being towed. It is for this reason that B&W does not recommend installing the Turnover Ball Gooseneck Hitch in this particular truck model.
